Adding ships and items to trek games

There has been quite a few emails to the STG about adding ships and items to various games in the Star Trek series, normally we used to send people over to the various niche sites covering that particular game but now we feel it's time to give the visitors of the STG a tutorial in this site to save them from having to send emails etc etc.

Adding ships to Star Trek: Bridge Commander

Before you start to add ships to Bridge Commander you will need to make sure that you have WinRar installed, go to www.rarlab.com and download the latest version.

Next, you will need to download the BCMI and BCMP scripts made to help install ships into Bridge Commander...

BCMI - Click To Download

BCMP - Click To Download

To install a ship using the BCMP system...(usually for older ships that is not BCMI compatible)

1: Extract the BCMP file that you have downloaded, and run the installer.

2: Extract the ship you want to install into the game into a temporary folder, or your desktop.

3: Copy those extracted folder to the root of your bridge commander game (normally C:/program files/Activision/Bridge commander)

4: Once you have copied the folders over open up BCMP, click on "Game Tools" and on the right you should see the name of the ship you have just copied over, click on that ship and choose the race you want that ship to be in and then click on "make plugin" you will then see a message saying that the ship has been added.  Now go ahead and select it when you play quick battle :)

To install a ship using the BCMI system...(will only work with ships that has the Bcmod file packed with it)

1: Install the BCMI file you downloaded

2: In the ship you have just extracted look for the Bcmod file, double click on it and thats your ship installed, if the ship you have downloaded does NOT have a bcmod file then install it using the BCMP system

Adding Ships/Stations to Star Trek Armada 1/2

Adding a ship to the Armada series is very tricky, this is one of the easiest ways we have found...

1 Pick the SOD file you want to use, you will find it in the ship file you have just downloaded.

2 Find the .odf of the same name, you must also choose which shipyard you want to build the ship in.

3 Make any changes you wish to make to the ODF file.

4 Choose a name for this ship for this example STG1 so rename both the ODF and SOD files to STG1.odf and STG1.sod.

5 You must now open the SOD file to the shipyard you want your ship to appear in, when you open the yard's SOD file add STG1 to the build list.

6 Open gui_global.spr, if there's a button for whatever ship the ODF belonged to, find it's line in the spr for this example we'll say it was the STG1.sod so copy the proper line

b_kdestroy gbkbld200 0 0 64 64

hit enter and paste it so you now have..

b_kdestroy gbkbld200 0 0 64 64
b_kdestroy gbkbld200 0 0 64 64

then change it so it shows

b_kdestroy gbkbld200 0 0 64 64
b_STG1 gbkbld200 0 0 64 64

7 Still in gui_global.spr scroll down to the wire frames copy all 4 lines that refer to the ship in this case kdestroy and paste them right underneath, change kdestroy to ship 1 and save like this

kdestroyw1 kwdestroy 40 0 40 40
kdestroyw2 kwdestroy 0 40 40 40
kdestroyw3 kwdestroy 40 40 40 40
kdestroyw4 kwdestroy 80 0 40 40
kdestroyw5 kwdestroy 0 0 40 40
ship1w1 kwdestroy 40 0 40 40
ship1w2 kwdestroy 0 40 40 40
ship1w3 kwdestroy 40 40 40 40
ship1w4 kwdestroy 80 0 40 40
ship1w5 kwdestroy 0 0 40 40

8 place all edited .odf's and .tt's into the addon folder and make sure that gui_global.spr is still in the Sprites folder and put ship1.odf into the sod folder that's it
