Starting A Clan

A comprehensive guide by the staff of the STG...

The Weekly Clan Founding Plan...

Pre Founding | Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4

Week 4 - Building and gathering your clans momentum

Your clan has now been running for almost a month...look through this checklist and ask yourself if you've passed them, if you ain't then there's something wrong with that section of the clan...

BY THE 4TH WEEK YOUR CLAN....

....should have gained more members

....should have the site & board COMPLETE with all content COMPLETE

....should be making diplomatic efforts and gained diplomatic treaties with clans who you think are ok.

....should have a recruiting section and a diplomacy section

....should have members that are seen to play in the games you are in at least ONCE A WEEK...if they ain't seen in a game room for more than a week, have a word with them.

....should have layed out dedicated clan practice days

....should have set a meeting date and time every month

....should have started a weekly roll call in your forums

That's the top points that signify a stable small clan. If your clan doesn't meet with some of those points then somewhere down the line your clan will run into difficulties.

The 4th week of your clan being online will see your clan looking to the future. As I said before most new clans collapse within the first 3 or 4 weeks, if you make it past the 4th week and have followed the main points of this basic set up of a clan then what comes next should be what your clan focuses on.

When a clan gets well known or well founded there comes a time in a clans life where a 3 letter word starts to play in the minds of your clans members and the diplomacy department cant drag you out of this 3 letter word...WAR!

When a clan goes to war with another clan it tests out the stability of each clan. It's a known statistic here in the STG that by the 4th week of a new clans life half of them end up in some kind of war or attrition war with another clan. This is when your diplomacy section needs to start working harder. If your diplomat section cant sort things out then the war will happen.

If you see a diplomatic situation go out of control you need to start thinking of the internals of your clan BEFORE the actual war itself. It's a matter of fact these days that a lot of other clans, and maybe your own by this point, will actively spy on another clan. Spying is simple, a member of another clan makes a new name and appears to be clannless and a newbie in the game, requests to join your clan and acts like a member of your clan participating in your clan events...but all the while this new member is actually reporting back to the REAL clan they are in, giving them your weaknesses and strengths. This is where you need to be careful. A spying clan is more likely to spy on your when you go to war with them or they go to war with you. If you notice a peak in your recruiting during a war then it is more than likely that one of your new recruits is in fact a spy...there is no guaranteed way to solve this, just use common sense. If you see your clan member on, but hardly see another member of the clan your at war with on when this new member is on then keep an eye on them. If a pattern forms then start asking questions.

Clan stability is paramount by the time the 4th week ends. If your clan isn't stable then you wont be prepared for the eventual wars that will happen.

Diplomacy itself can overt most of these wars, you need to build on your diplomatic efforts and gain the respect of the other clan leaders.

Your recruiting section should be constantly working at full tilt. 2 new members every week is something you need to work to, but make sure your clan doesn't get too big.

Also keep an eye on your website by the end of the 4 week period, keep those updates happening to your diplomacy page and keep that fresh news rolling in on the front page...

Most of all though...BE SEEN IN THE GAMES YOUR CLAN PLAYS IN!

I hope this basic structure has helped form your clan...

Regards...
