Starting A Clan
A comprehensive guide by the staff of the STG...

The Weekly Clan Founding Plan...

Pre Founding | Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4

Week 2 - Building the member base

Any clan will tell you this...in the first 4 weeks of a clans life you HAVE to start recruiting, if you don't you will never catch up.

In the second week of your clan being founded you will need to select a designated person who will take charge of the recruiting for the clan. This person has to be good in chat and also MOST importantly good in the game you will be recruiting in. Most new recruits these days will ask for a game with the recruiter before they join a clan. If they manage to completely wipe out the recruiter then your prospective member will walk away laughing thinking that your entire clan is full of crap players and members.

Also, when you are recruiting DON'T fall into the old GSA recruiting trap of messaging people inside GSA. Most of the people who are without clans in the established games in GameSpy have probably been messaged by LOADS of different clans wanting them to join, I know I have and I started to get sick of it. Recruiting in games has to be based on what it used to be like...recruiting IN THE ACTUAL GAME! Get into a server or game and start playing as normal. If you see someone come in with no tag and who is playing quite good then start chatting to them either in the game or in the chat lobby. Also, don't start ramming your clan and its site down there throat just casually mention that your clan is looking for members. Another thing to remember is that the STG also has it's Clan Recruiting pages...over 100 clans have gained members since those pages were added.

One last thing to remember when recruiting is to find out the gaming history of the person you are recruiting, what is there clan past? Have they been in the game long? Have they been in other clans?

In the second week of your clans being online and playing you MUST have finished your clan website by this time and either started working on, or finished making a forum for your clan. It is also a good idea for someone in your clan to start making signature pictures for your members if they are going into other clans forums. Signature pictures can be filled with loads of good info about the person posting and the clan they are in.

Week 2 is the starting point of your clans growth...

Week 3 is make or break time...
