So now I am sure you all have seen the new ST movie what did you think? I liked it some things I could have done without but all in all it was great.

It came out here on Thursday the 7th, so I saw it on that day and then talked to AcidRain about it.

I think it was a fantastic flick -- if you were not already a Star Trek fan. They did the right thing to revive the franchise. I didn't think the story was fantastic but it seemed to work. Considering the Narada's (Nero's ship) class, I was surprised it was as heavily armed as it was.

The acting was first rate. One critic said, "no offense to William Shatner, but Kirk hasn't been this sexy in a long, long time." The same is true for Uhura. And let's not forget the voluptuous Orion girl that pops up in a couple of scenes.

I could frankly have done without Scotty's sidekick and the set of events through which Kirk and Scotty (and one other important character) met.

If you are trekker like me, then you felt at least some anguish, from the redesign of the USS Enterprise, to the near-absolute change in the Star Trek universe, to the way Kirk ended up in command of the flagship of the Federation.

At least we were spared seeing Pike in that godawful wheelchair he was in during the original series two-part episode, "The Menagerie."

Course, this movie is a menagerie in and of itself. Now we all are back to square one and have to learn about our characters and our universe all over again.

Maybe that's a good thing. Maybe now we can put aside all arguments about "canon" and get on with the franchise without arguing whether or not the Romulans really had warp drive in "Balance of Terror" (Scotty reported that they didn't in the episode).

I don't think the Romulan ship was so heavily armed. It was a mining ship I bet those missiles that it fired were to blast huge asteroids or large chunks of Iron on planetoids. They never fired any disruptors. I didn't like the events around the Kirk and scotty meet up but I did like Scotty he gave a great performance.

Scotty (Simon) Was not introduced until the movie was 2/3rds done to say the least. As a movie I give it 7.5-8/10. As a Trek movie 2.5 at the most.

yeah im withSteve on this one.

I dont want to learn about Star Trek all over again ( that y we have ToS and ToS Movies and TNG), and if you are a True Trek Fan, youwill respect all that Gene Roddenberry created(remeber him) and go with the canon and timeline that HE created and not what some non-Trekkie dreamed up and re-vamped....

accepting this movie as "the way it is now" is like sying that "all" the other movies never happened.....I cant accept that.

I thought the Effects were superb, and the storyline was ok, although it did remond me a little of ST Nemesis" with the villian wanting revenge (what happened to Originality?)

Uhuraha and Spock?..LMMFAO....gimme a break man!!!

Kirrk , Spock, Sulu, Checkov characters were well played.

Scotty really needed Victors accent cus man that acent to me sucked big donkey!!

Like Disruptor stated, and i said this in my review......this is an Alternate Trek Universeand not according to Gene...thats my main Gripe....if ya cant respect that? then ya cant respect what Gene Roddenberry Created and started and meant for the Franchise.

Gene Meant for the Franchise to go Forward in the Trek timeline and not be revamped and re-created in our time.

Trek could have been revitalised with a new crew(remeber TNG) new look and storyline without sacrificing the past or canon, and still have the same effect as this Movie did.

People these Days are just to DAMN lazy to be creative anymore and make something Original ...but instead the rehash the past all in the name of the Mighty dolar and at the expense of the Trek fan base.

This Movie was like "Ironman" to me all bells and whistles but thats as far as it goes.

I remember as a young man seeing STMP on the big screen and at that time we were all wowed cus that was like Big effectsfor us that we never seen before(like star wars 2 years earlier) and that was Creativity and a Great Storyline that led to other chars being born in the ST Universe (like the Borg)
That was Trekat its best on the big screen

A Majority of todays younger generation cant appreciate movies like that or 2001 space oddysey because of all of the state of the art CGI that has spoiled them.

in my book there will ALWAYS be 1 Star trek timeline as well as Kirk and Spock, and thats what Gene Roddenberry created and not no noob.

But yeah the Movie was good and it will rake in lotsa money for Paramount, but at the cost of what Gene Roddenberry created, and meant for the Franchise, and to me thats just wrong.

Hold the Fraking phone IronMan was a great movie they told the origin story almost to a T. You may not like the Origin story but that's what they put in the movie. Okay you hate the movie I got it.

JJ left a door open at the end of that movie to tie both the old and new franchise back into the same timeline.

Looking at it from a "non trek film" point of view it was a good sci-fi flick

Its only saving grace is it is in an alternate universe like Enterprise and the TNG films.

im a die hard comic book fan as(over 30+years back off kid) well and i had Iron man issues #1-150 and that was not the exactw way he became Ironman(he was in vietnam and stepped on a mine and did not have an assistant to help make his suit, although he made it himself and destroyed his viatnamese captors that held him prisoner) , and stop putting wors in peoples mouth,
ididnt say i hate the movie, i refered to Genes work being altered totally and not just a little but totaaly by JJ thats what i hate...doh!!

Age meant stuff being made after the TNG era timeline is a contradiction to what the canon timeline(which Gene created) has been based on and is rubbish IMO and a Pseudo canon timeline (alternate reality or universe) has been created ever since then
