Well, if your reading this from the front page of the site (all you folks in the forum, dont forget, this page appears on the front of the site as well) then you've noticed that the drop down java menu we have used for quite a while now is done...away...vanished into the "history" folder of the site incase we need it later on.
We are back to the originla menu layout of the site from 2002, the text side links. As i said before STGD will be splitting itself up into 2 distinct sites, a reversal of almost 2 years of damage to the site that the whole "mainstream" philospohy. One site will be directly answerable to the clans, basically the return of the old STCD, the other site will be directly answerable to the modders, the reopening of the STMD and STCD is still a fair bit away though as the whole network has to be delinked.
The plan is a simple one. The existing site as it stands now, the Star Trek Gamers Directory, will be the front door that everyone enters to get the latest news, interviews and as always upfront views about trek gaming. Latest mods and clan news will be viewable on the front page. For more detailed stuff though the visitor will go to one of the 2 spin off sites, still with the same layout but tailored to meet the needs of the modder and clanner.
Each site will have it's own staff team of 2. Myself and Katherine will remain on the front end of the site (what will be left of STGD) while 2 staff will take care of the news for STCD and 2 staff will take care of the news for STMD. The whole thing will be tied together of course by the forum. The forum is where everything will happen, its the basis for the STGNN and the reopening of the STDN which is also some time off.
STGD as it stands just now is too far into the mainstream that people dont distinguish us from the "them". It's time to change that.
STCD and STMD back in 2001 and 2002 was 2 of the leading sites in the trek game world. The slow merge of the sites in 2003 and 2004 was a success, no doubt about that, but the fleets are now sailing off into the horizon and some of them have requested a return to the old ways and the modders want a dedicated modding site. Having the 2 sites tied together inside the STGD is the answer to all the questions ive been asking myself about what the averge trek gamer needs.
As i said, its going to take some time, but we will get there in the end.
