Imagine the red X box is your download...

:splat

The little smiley is you....

The moral of the story?  Fileplanet isnt the disaster area of 2000 to 2002.  They now have more mirrors and i GUARUNTEE YOU...you will RARELY be in a queue for any Star Trek files.  Nine times out of ten the queue is only half full.  If ya wait and prod around the net for a few seconds the box will drop, splat you and the download will start almost as if we are still on the old SGN server.  Now i got to admit, the larger downloads (200mb and over) will suffer.  The download pipe isnt the super fast one that SGN had, but it will still give ya all good speeds.

Anyway, on the subject of downloads and mod uploads.  The way the upload system now works (due to the way fileplanet works) it means that anyone uploading there ship or large mod will have to upload there mod via the site to a small server running in my house.  The reason for that is the 24 hour wait before any files show on fileplanet.  So, for the first few days your mod will be hosted here on my compaq rack on my own line.  After fileplanet comes up with the mirror the download will then be transfered over to them.  Now this means that for ships and small downloads up to 5mb you wont have a wait time, however for large mods over 10mb the download speed for the first 2 days will be coming from my own server, i'm on DSL, but it's still slow compared to Fileplanet.  Still, its better than no uploads at all.  I'll work out something better at a later date once the whole network is back online.
