| Taking stock of the rumour mill |

After spending the better part of 4 hours messing with the stack of mods for Trek games i am uploading it suddenly struck me...why has the rumour mill calmed down?
You all know what i am talking about. Not less than a couple of months ago rumors was abound about new games, new ressurected games infact on STGU and someof the other affiliates of STGU Lang himself stated that something was "in the works".
Then...silence...
Ok, what do we know just now? Well, come the 10th of March, only a few days away, the sets and cast of enterprise will be let go. Bakula, Blalock, Trineer and the cast will do there own thing and the sets will be dumped. As for the trekunited $3mil thing...well, that would fund...hmm...maybe 4 episodes if they are lucky? There is a convention coming up on the 10th (at least i think its the 10th) odd's on trekunited will take the stand and admit that there is no way they can save enterprise alone. They MIGHT have an outside chance with Spike...but hey folks guess what! Spike is basically owned by Viacom already, if Viacom or Paramount was so serious about saving this show dont ya think they would have moved it to spike and told UPN to go shove it?
See my point here?
Which leads us onto the one section of the franchise which has really suffered bad planning and a basic "we dont give a darn" attitude...the trek games franchise. Come on folks, admit it, for every 1 half decent trek game there was 2 really crap ones. If you look at the history of trek games its all there infront of you.
You all know what my thoughts are on an MMORPG to be released in 2007, it wont make it, and if it does it will be severaly unfinished and riddled with bugs. Hell, they will be lucky if they make the 2006 beta stage. It's already march folks...a couple of more months we will be halfway through 2005. It took blizzard YEARS to get World of Warcraft just right and they are a well respected game company. They are making 2 games from what they have said...
http://www.perpetual.com/pages/employment.html
See that? The same job positions that they have been advertising since LAST YEAR!
One of the games under development is severely under staffed by the looks of it. I'm hedging a bet that Paramount already know this which is why good old Harry Lang and Paramount has been forced into the position by the slow state of development of the MMORPG and the constant reminders by the STGD to concede and come out with the whole "another new game" line. Trust me, things are not looking to good just now in game land for Star Trek.
You see Lang in STGU or on the official boards? Pressure him into giving out new info and not the babble that Perpetual are coming out with on the interviews...
Don't bother to catch him on the STGD boards, he wont come in cause he has probably realised by now that STGD got most of what will happen in 2005 right. The MMORPG will not make the 2007 deadline.
There...i've vented, now go out, get lang and prove me wrong
Bet ya'll can't.... |

Very True... But that has what bearing on the future? Its not paramounst fault for poor games, its us for buying them... (& not buying the good ones)..

So you work for perpetual now? News to me...We dont even know how big the perpetual teams is, and they arnt even going to do the majority of art themselves anyway...its timesaving..
Vic, your coming out with the crappiest [censored] of all time...bashing a game which you havnt played, or seen. you call yourself a community leader yet you wont support any new game coming out? Infact, you dont seem to support anything that paramount does... STO has a massive budget & a decent and highly skilled team. They visit the majority of STO community sites, it doesnt look to me as if its a failing game, do you? |

LMAO...ohhh i had to tear this one apart...
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy...you remember that game Jaz? Interplay visted HUNDREDS of fan based forums, including the TGW which is a VERY old trek game site which i took over in 2001. They promised the WORLD to the trek gamer.
Starfleet Academy was released TWO YEARS LATE
Star Trek: New Worlds...yeah, i remember when New Worlds was coming out, dev's all over the place, again, promising the world. Turns out they have to cut more than a quarter of the game content out to release the thing on time.
Star Trek: DS9 - Dominion Wars...ohhhhhh yeah....S&S on the PR warpath along with the devs, telling ME PERSONALLY and THIS SITE that Dom Wars would be the greatest game of all time for trek gaming...we all know what happened with that game.
Activision...promised us TOS, TMP, DS9, VOY and TNG games....did they produce? Yeah...only TNG games.
Jaz, until you open your eyes and look around in the even recent history of trek games, or until you have spent as much time in the community as even HALF of the board members of this place has then i suggest you run back to STGU with the rest of the fluffy bunnies who are all in wonder and praise to there god Harry Lang. It is people like YOU jaz who have managed to undermine the very fabric of trek gaming, people like you who say "ahhhhh...lets give them another chance" even after the debacle that was Activision. People like you who will accept any 2 bit POS coded crap from a game developer who no one has heard of.
Anyone else wanna prove me wrong with regards to the first post? |

So Vic, what do you want us to do? Not buy the next star trek game? Flame harry and several other sites to bits... Do you honestly believe that you, me or anyone else could actually influence the quality of newer games? How do you expect to do this when you cut the links with the people in charge...they're not going to resign, theyll just stop listening period....wow nice plan.
MMORPG's are always late..I expect it will be delayed nothing new there. The things I have read to date
Oh, no need to flame be about stgu...I dont see you giving much news about the future about trek gaming lately. I just do the news and content updates for STO...Eagely anticipating a new game..yet again
Nor has there been much but slandering paramount, sto and sto fansites... What happened to going back to the old STCD? When vic are you going to stop posting [censored] on your mainpage and come up with new ideas that actually help the community.
What did YOU do, that I didnt to stop poor quality St games...We all hoped, and we hope again...everyone else hopes. In all honestly I wasnt a fool for buying BC or EF2... I was a fool to buy SFCIII tho. Market forces determine the quality of product, we keep demanding and buying simply because we're trekkies. MMOs on the otherhand is a different market..perpetual knows to sustain its subscriptions it has to deliver or die... They dont need us to tell them what to do...they know the eexpectations already
If you want better games complain to the new publisher whoever its gonna be.. |
