Spent hours looking for answers on how to get hardware rendering to work and finally bit the bullet and figured it out myself.

For Hardware Rendering under Windows 7 64 bit:

Install DS9:THe Fallen using the FULL option.

For some reason, the setup screen only provides software rendering as an option

To activate Hardware rendering using D3D:

Run the game once to have the ds9.ini created. You will no option other than software rendering so start the game up.

QUIT the game immediately and navigate to the DS9TheFallen\system directory.

Edit the ds9.ini file and change the following:

[Engine.Engine]
GameRenderDevice=SoftDrv.SoftwareRenderDevice
WindowedRenderDevice=SoftDrv.SoftwareRenderDevice
RenderDevice=GlideDrv.GlideRenderDevice

to

[Engine.Engine]
GameRenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
WindowedRenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice

Run the game once more voila, hardware redering via D3D is now activated. Don't change the redererer from the game options screen or you will be back seeing only the software rendering option when the game forces a restart.

Note: Changing the renderer to using opengl will work, but the game runs way to fast. D3D runs the game at normal speed.

Good to know, I bought this around the same time as A1 I think, but due to A1s addictive multiplayer and leading me into A2, SFC etc I never did get around to playing it. It means all is not lost :P
