Star Trek Gamers Site Today

I just wanted to start a little discussion in regard to what Star Trek Gamers represents today and perhaps an insight into peoples perceptions of what it may represent in the future.

I remember coming onto this site during the Star Fleet command 3 years through Wade and the BotaKnights. It was an exciting and thriving community at the time with lots of 'Trek Fleets' being represented. It was also a source for news, meeting new friends, organising conflicts, setting up steer groups for modders and hosting websites.

I have recently come back on here to build up latinum and win the lottery from time to time.lol

It just seems such a shame that we have in essence an empty shell of what used to be such a thriving community. I don't think this site is on it's own in this regard mind as my very own at BAT.Gaming fell off significantly. For us, this was down to a change in the gaming market in the world of FPS and I assume that this site has fallen foul to the very same thing but in a different genre of pc gaming. IIt also didn't help that I ran out of 'steam' and stopped promoting, organising the site etc etc. Anyone who has run a big gaming community will realise that as soon as the 'lacky' or the 'head' of the organisation stops putting the effort in, then it all goes down hill very quickly unless someone else fills that void pretty much instantly.

I have also realised of late from comments that the PS3, XBox gaming market took a lot of PC gamers away and also those that are left do seem to be more interested in Facebook, twitter etc than traditional community websites.

With all of that said, I am no quitter and I would like to be part of a group that made an attempt to 'revive' this site by being pro active in some way, rather than letting it fade away, much like my own site did.

I don't at this point have answers but perhaps some suggestions.

a) Form a steering group dedicated to reviving this site
b) Revamp with Star Trek Online an integral or at least achnowledged part. This is the only current ST game at present that has scope for expansion and growth and therefor should be an avenue to bring new members, fleets, groups to this site. I haven't played this game so I don't know how feasible it would be etc.
c) Run competitions
d) Once the goals, targets are set, then send out mass emails etc to remind the community that this site is still here and is once again leading the way for Star Trek gamers.

I have other ideas but the plumber has arrived because my boiler is up the 'spout'.

Cheers

Steve

WHile I agree to a point, good luck getting anyone here to even half support STO. Victor is bent on seeing STO fail.

When I formed BAT.Gaming, it was based around an FPS game called Joint operations. This was a game that could host 150 players per official server and we promptly bought an independant gaming machine on a dedicated server box. This enabled us to host a few servers plus a teamspeak server and our won hosting for a set fee per month. It was a great tool that enabled us to maintain a very steady growth for BAT.Gaming which grew to well in excess of a 100 members.

Everything was going great in regard to pc online gaming and then BF2 came along. This cahnged everything because with BF2 came EA owned BF2 official ranked servers. This stopped clans from owning 'dedi' boxes because only EA servers would allow thevranking system for gamers so that they could unlock items.

For me, this was a huge challenge and I hated the way EA monopoloused everything via this. I could have thrown my toys out of the pram but I had to move with the times. We promoted BF2 because we understood that it was the future whether we like it or didn't. The bottom line was no matter what my own thoughts were, to sustain growth, BF2 had to be promoted.

This is very similar in my eyes to ST:O, especially as this site has the title Star Trek Gamers. Every game with the Star TreK label has to be included whether we think it's a good game or not.
