Devs posts..duh :/ Quote: PvP will be actively encouraged in the Holodeck. PvP in "Real Life" between ships or on the ground will only be available post-launch. Probably in an expansion.
All the details about if its realm v realm or a free for all or whatever will be determined while we're working on the expansion. Being able to use the holodeck for testing various things should be helpful though.

As pointed out...lack of PvP will be a drawback for a segment of the gaming population...
But they must be shooting for some specific demographic they think they have touched on....or else they wouldnt even develope it...
The advisory board was suppossed to provide input on making the proposed concept better....not necessarily rewrite the game concept to appeal to a current demographic...
Much as many SFC fans wanted SFC3 to be something of a more logical progression from SFC2...and were very vocal about it (including myself)...many current gamers are looking at the new concept with disdain....because the game wont appeal to them...
I know I wont be getting it...as it doesnt appeal to me....doesnt mean I have to trash it...or those producing it...
Well to those who would be so utterly negative......I would say..." Dont trash another man's Trek"...
This will appeal to lots of people.....
I look at it this way...more succesful titles means the better chance they will get around to my demographic.....a war gamer...
And even if they dont bring out a game we really fawn over.....it doesnt mean we have to abandon those games we still love and play...
SFC is still going strong....The server kit code is being improved...Quicksilver has committed to releasing a Q3 editor....and latest word on ETA for OP source code is as ealry as this christmas...
Games only die if we let them...not because someone posted "Trek gaming is dead"...no matter how many times they post it...
Trek gaming is NOT dead...."you can have my OP CD when you can pry it out my cold, dead CD ROM" :drunk |

Ok..Straight from the Horses mouth (link might not work..havnt checked)
Quote: Now now, you early game bashers take a break.
We all realize that three factions would be better than one, but there is a matter of execution. All of us at perpetual feel that the current crop of MMOs are like wierd snapshots of life, rather than actual changing universes. But, We don't have the time to make a deep game for three factions at once. Its just plain too much work for how much time we are giving ourselves.
Thus, we've made the decision to make a deep and interesting federation game that has a story that clearly leads into a large multi-faction conflict for the late-game. We felt that it would be a much better game than a large jumbled no-depth game that is frozen in time like those that currently exist.
Some people are going to be dissapointed, we realize that.
But,we are not making a copy of other MMOs, its going to be very different, so I ask that you throw a few of your assumptions out the window.

So from now on presume that there is no faction or realm PvP, also assume to play a federation species... |
