Star Trek Gamers Site Today

-----------------------------------

I just wanted to start a little discussion in regard to what Star Trek Gamers represents today and perhaps an insight into peoples perceptions of what it may represent in the future.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
I remember coming onto this site during the Star Fleet command 3 years through Wade and the BotaKnights.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> It was an exciting and thriving community at the time with lots of <b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>'Trek Fleets'<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> being represented.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> It was also a source for news,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> meeting new friends,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> organising conflicts,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> setting up steer groups for modders and hosting websites.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> <b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
I have recently come back on here to build up latinum and win the lottery from time to time.lol
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
It just seems such a shame that we have in essence an empty shell of what used to be such a thriving community.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> I don't think this site is on it's own in this regard mind as my very own at BAT.Gaming fell off significantly.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> For us,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> this was down to a change in the gaming market in the world of FPS and I assume that this site has fallen foul to the very same thing but in a different genre of pc gaming.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> IIt also didn't help that I ran out of <b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>'steam'<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> and stopped promoting,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> organising the site etc etc.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> Anyone who has run a big gaming community will realise that as soon as the <b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>'lacky'<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> or the <b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>'head'<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> of the organisation stops putting the effort in,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> then it all goes down hill very quickly unless someone else fills that void pretty much instantly.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
I have also realised of late from comments that the PS3,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> XBox gaming market took a lot of PC gamers away and also those that are left do seem to be more interested in Facebook,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> twitter etc than traditional community websites.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
With all of that said,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> I am no quitter and I would like to be part of a group that made an attempt to <b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>'revive'<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> this site by being pro active in some way,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> rather than letting it fade away,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> much like my own site did.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> <b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
I don't at this point have answers but perhaps some suggestions.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
a)<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> Form a steering group dedicated to reviving this site
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
b)<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> Revamp with Star Trek Online an integral or at least achnowledged part.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> This is the only current ST game at present that has scope for expansion and growth and therefor should be an avenue to bring new members,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> fleets,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> groups to this site.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> I haven't played this game so I don't know how feasible it would be etc.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
c)<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> Run competitions
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
d)<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> Once the goals,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> targets are set,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> then send out mass emails etc to remind the community that this site is still here and is once again leading the way for Star Trek gamers.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
I have other ideas but the plumber has arrived because my boiler is up the <b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>'spout'<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
Cheers
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>

Re: Star Trek Gamers Site Today

-----------------------------------

When I formed BAT.Gaming,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> it was based around an FPS game called Joint operations.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> This was a game that could host 150 players per official server and we promptly bought an independant gaming machine on a dedicated server box.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> This enabled us to host a few servers plus a teamspeak server and our won hosting for a set fee per month.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> It was a great tool that enabled us to maintain a very steady growth for BAT.Gaming which grew to well in excess of a 100 members.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
Everything was going great in regard to pc online gaming and then BF2 came along.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> This cahnged everything because with BF2 came EA owned BF2 official ranked servers.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> This stopped clans from owning <b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>'dedi'<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> boxes because only EA servers would allow thevranking system for gamers so that they could unlock items.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
For me,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> this was a huge challenge and I hated the <b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> way EA monopoloused everything via this.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> I could have thrown my toys out of the pram but I had to move with the times.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> We promoted BF2 because we understood that it was the future whether we like it or didn't.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> The bottom line was no matter what my own thoughts were,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> to sustain growth,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> BF2 had to be promoted.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
This is very similar in my eyes to ST:O,<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> especially as this site has the title Star Trek Gamers.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b> Every game with the Star TreK label has to be included whether we think it's a good game or not.<b style="color:#FFA34F"></b>
