The best way is to skip the intro movie and go into your SFC2 EAW folder and right click the desktop shortcut.You could always press escape but best to go with the desktop shortcut as your SFC2EAW.exe

You want to make sure you are patched to 2036 as well patches can be found on the front site of at startrek-gamers.com.

I hope this helps and you a have full admin righs of this system.No need for two thread if you made the other one.

If someone has already posted this, then I am sorry, but I need some help. I installed SFC2: EAW, but cannot get it to play. I am running Windows 7 32 bit. Do I need to create a virtual machine or something? Everytime I try to run it, the screen flashes and I get the intro movie with the Paramount logo and George Takei explaining what is going on. After that, the screen flashes a bunch of times and then it takes me back to my desktpop. Please, any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Ihaven't played this game in years and I was looking forward to rekindling my relationship. =)

Honestly I don't trust the official companies anymore. I think that if the want to have a good (Star Trek) game, we have to rely on the fans to make them or mods for existing games.

Ended up watching Farscape: the Peacekeeper Wars the other day......
It occurred to me that most people just dont appreciate how immense a PK Command carrier is, you always hear that an ISD is mahooosive next to a galaxy class ship, but if you mention a PK Command carrier no one has a clue - remember that this beast has 40 or so 1KM square (if not certainly larger) training grounds inside it, and has hanger bays that can accommodate entire ships of several hundred metres in length....

Aaaaanyway.... I have very quickly thrown a picture together which includes several other universe ships (maybe more familiar) including - an Imperial ISD, a UoP Galaxy, TOS & remake Battlestars - all of which are to scale with each other.........
See for yourself just how nightmareish the damned thing is.....Its bad enough seeing the PK command carrier - but also remember that a Scarran dreadnaught is twice as large!

Its hard to show you what i mean when i dont have any missions left to play.

But i have had many mission where the episode log just tells you the "System name"

For example if im in the Beta Ursae Sector Block and i get a mission which tells me i must assist the USS IDIOT in the Rashana system as its being attacked by unkown forces.

Accept mission, just to make sure check the episodes dialogue box and sure enough all it tells me is the systerm name. Captins log just relays the same message as the episode dialogue, correct me if im wrong.

Anyway i go to the "really big map" were all the sector are shown, no mention of where the Rashana system is.

So how do i find it?

System list?
Area map?

Both are a blank becasue im not in the sector block that the system is.

And thats where my map comes into play, start typing the name, susggestions will pop up click on one which auto completes and walla :

"The Rashana system is located in the Z-6 Sector of the Iota Pavonis Sector Block and is in Federation space."

Now i look on the "really big map" and know exactly were to go.

Anyway GEEKS like me dont need to minimise anything when you have 2 screens.

Plus if you already have the map up and ready behind STO then its a case of hitting the minimise buttons start typing press enter and your there. click STO on the start bar and you back dunno about your computer but i could do that in under 10 seconds.

Basically what your saying is irrelevent if they do not give you the sector block name or sector. Which is WHY i built the map because they dont always give you that information.

14970 Hits in 4 days and an a average stay on each hit of 10-30s would say to me its doing exactly what its supposed to be.

Any suggestions on how to improve it would be appreciated though.

This map has a search function, additional information about each system, which anyone can add to so if you feel like helping please feel free to add to the database.

You can click on any sector and it will open the sector space map.

As I said:
If you go into the captains log, click on episodes, the mission you are on, it tells you what system you need to go to and in which sector that system is in (usually the last or penultimate paragraph - hence the speed you can do it in).
When you know the name of the sector you can look at the galaxy map which has all the sectors shown (the really big map). Go to the block with the sector in and then yes...the system will be in the list of systems on the map.

as for:

Again - check the captains log, the episodes section, the mission you are on, and it WILL tell you where you need to go (including starbases, ships and people).
All of the answers to these complaints/questions can be found in the captains log if you actually bother to look (and it doesn't take that much time either - it literally is ~10secs...maybe 20 if you are a little slow)

As for Sulu... pretty much every NPC on Sol starbase is spouting out where he is (not that you ever need to physically go to him mind you).

The ONLY exception to the above is the crystalline entity, which floats about place to place.

That aside - yes cryptic made a massive screw-up by not placing everything you want to know in the mission blurb you get in the mission panel on the right - it is a bit much to ask someone to go and actively find/read what they need to know.

On a personal note though - very nice job with the map, and I do have a ton of respect for you creating it, it is just that as you said

It is however, still quicker to check the captains log then look at the galaxy map to find the sector (then block), rather than minimising the game, going online, getting to the map and inputting the system name, which only really is useful in so much that it shows which sector block you need to go in the first place, as once you are in the block, you can auto navigate to the desired system.

They probably should have added the captains log to the tutorial in all fairness though...

Most of the mission do noo tell you were the systems are they do not tell you in which sector they are or in which sector block.

Were as my map tells you what sector block and what sector within that sector block.

You can always tell when things arnt as simple as they could be by the chat panel.

Wheres this system.

Where is SULU.
Where is this ship.
Anyone know where this station is.

Either that or there are way too many retards in the world, which would mean im one of them.

If it was as easy as you say then these messages wouldnt be in the chat box every few minutes.

Also the galaxy map doesnt tell you were a system is if you are not in that particular sector block. Sector space map is limited and the system list is limited to which sector block you are in.

Were as mine is not, as stated above you can click on any sector in ANY sector block and it will show you the sector space map, also the abilty to search for the system which will TELL you exactly were they are so no searching at all.

Saved me many minutes probably hours... obvioulsy once you played the game a while you tend to know were everythign is but for noobies this is ideal.

This is probably not gonna happen but I would love it if BioWare bought the Star Trek Gaming License, I'd like to see one in the vein of the Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic games.

Or maybe even a good ole fashion adventure story in the veins of 25th Anniversary and A Final Unity.

From what I remember from the beta it wasn't that difficult. Open up your missions log, see which sector it's in then go to that sector (or look it up on the galaxy map if you don't know where the sector is). As soon as you enter the bock with that sector in you could grab it from the systems list in the galaxy map.
I do admit that it may have taken a whole 10 seconds to check the log though...

3: If you have a problem with another member in another clan or board, dont bring that problem in here. NO DRAGGING YOUR CLANS PROBLEMS INTO THIS BOARD, FLAME IN YOUR OWN BOARDS...NOT THIS ONE. If you are posting an announcement about a clan war on the front page of the STG site for people to view do NOT start accusing the other clans of "hacking" or "stealing members" just post the war announcement.

4: NO FULL OUT FLAMING. Making a new topic on any forum to flame another member of the board is no longer allowed.

5: FLAME CONTENT IN GENERAL THREADS. General threads (outside of the Political Debates forum) in the board which start out as a normal discussion and then turn into a flame will be allowed to progress if the arguement is based on the original topic. However, when it gets personal and off topic the FIRST of the flaming posters will get a warning. If the flame continues the thread will be locked and all people involved in the flame will be given a warning.

6: MODERATOR ACTIONS. Dont bother to come whining to me or Vic if you dont like a decision one of the moderators has made against you.

7: LINKING TO OTHER COMMUNITY SITES...is allowed.

8: NO SPAMMING. Threads OUTSIDE of the Waffle Boards MUST remain on a discussion basis, you start to make one word replies in them the thread will be moved to the waffle board. If the same people keep turning discussions into waffle threads outside of the Waffle Boards youll be given a warning. If in doubt about making a new topic, it's safer to make it in the waffle boards where one word answers are allowed.

Special Circumstances

1: The Waffle Board...the NO SPAMMING rule does not apply there, all other rules do though...just dont go nuts with one word replies all the time...unless its the word ssociation thread.

2: The Politicial Debates Forum...debates in the forum must remain on topic. If a flame war starts and the flames turn personal with no links to the original topic then the person shall be warned and their rights to access the debates forum will be removed for a week.

3: The News Portal Forums...The forums on the top section of the board marked "News Portal" on the end are used for news posts on the front page of http://www.startrek-gamers.com and http://www.stargate-gamers.com the "Community Announcements" forum section in eachof those news portals are for community members to post their news on the front page. If you have news relating to Star Trek or Stargate gaming, or news which would effect those 2 communities then post the announcement. If you do not then DONT POST IN THOSE FORUMS!

The Warning System...5 warnings = 1 month ban. If you get banned for the 3rd time the ban is permanent and I mucy warn you, being banned from this site also means you are no longer able to access the front page of both sites either. A ban from this forum is a ban from the entire network

The Vice President of CBS consumer products has this to say on the matter about more "traditional" based games (non MMO money suckers) for Star Trek...

Of course he spewed nothing but greatness for the MMO which is basically Star Trek: In Name Only, however reports from a few of the preorder places like GAME in the UK have reported massive cancellations of the pre order just before the game launched. Wether these folks will decide to subscribe again once Cryptic fixs the problems with the game (which are numerous) is anyones guess.

I myself did not subscribe to the MMO, since when has the federation ran around shooting anything and everything that basically moves? Star Trek: Online is NOTHING MORE than Champions Online with phasers, nothing more, nothing less.

With any luck a decent publisher (not Bethesda) will take up the mantle of making more traditional PC CD/DVD based single/multiplay games in the future.
